Media Monitoring Specialist

The media monitoring specialist will be contracted to provide part-time support for a minimum of 6 months, with the possibility of extension. They will use a pre-defined methodology to provide research and analysis on key narratives in their assigned media environment using CrowdTangle, Pulsar, and other tools as needed. The media monitoring specialist will form part of a multi-country team to support the production of a broad comparable study on hostile narratives across Central and Eastern Europe. The analysis will form part of a weekly report on media narratives that have the potential to undermine democratic norms and institutions. As needed the media monitoring specialists may be asked to follow relevant narrative threads and other findings to form ad hoc published reports and social media content.

Tasks:

  • Reports to the Senior Analyst
  • Use CrowdTangle, Pulsar, and other media monitoring tools and techniques to monitor their relevant media environments.
  • Track pre-established narratives and identify new ones
  • Contribute to the further development of methodological approaches
  • Draft weekly analytical summaries of findings
  • Supporting the communication activities related to dissemination of weekly newsletters and blogs related to the research

 

Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • 1-2 years prior experience in media monitoring
  • Demonstrable ability to provide socio-political analysis
  • Experience working with think tanks and other civil society organizations
  • Ability to write fluently in English
  • Native level of at least one of the following languages:
Russian Czech
Latvian Slovak
Lithuanian Hungarian
Ukrainian Romanian
Polish Bulgarian

 

Additional beneficial skills:

  • Additional spoken languages (esp. Central and Eastern European languages)
  • Experience in communications with National and European Policy Makers
  • Experience providing analysis on hostile information activities
